Spokane woman arrested after allegedly firing handgun in air to scare loiterer

Police arrested a Spokane woman Sunday evening after she allegedly fired a handgun in the air on the front steps of her home.

Police were called to a house near the intersection of North Columbus Street and East Montgomery Avenue around 5:15 p.m. after receiving a call for shots fired, according to a Spokane police news release.

They found Jeannie R. Rasberry, 34, inside the home. Rasberry told responding officers she saw someone loitering on the sidewalk in front of her house, the release said. She allegedly said she was tired of feeling threatened, so she took her handgun outside and fired a round in the air.

Officers recovered the handgun and arrested Rasberry on investigation of unlawful discharge of a firearm, a misdemeanor. She was booked and released from jail and has not been charged with a crime.

In the news release, the department stressed that “irresponsible behavior with firearms is extremely dangerous to the public.”
