Prep roundup: East Valley claims district title in girls soccer

Micaela Verdal found the net in the 17th minute and the East Valley Knights held on for a 1-0 victory over the Clarkston Bantams in the District 7 2A championship match on Wednesday at Gonzaga Prep High School.
East Valley, which picked up its ninth shutout of the season, advances as the No. 1 seed and will host Ellensburg on Saturday at 1 p.m. at G-Prep.
Clarkston advances as the second seed and will play Othello on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Clarkston.
Volleyball
Sophomore Emily Schultheis piled up 14 blocks, including eight stuffs, for the Colton Wildcats, but it wasn’t enough to prevent an 18-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-20, 15-7 loss at the hands of Pomeroy in Colton.
Pomeroy moves on to the District 9 1B championship match against Oakesdale on Saturday in Colfax.
Pomeroy advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 win over St. John-Endicott.
Jacey Johnson had 20 kills, seven digs and seven service aces and Lindsey Lindgren added 18 assists and seven digs to power the Oakesdale to a 25-14, 27-25, 25-11 victory over the LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus in a District 9 1B match at Oakesdale.
Earlier, LWK eliminated Waitsburg 3-0.
