Spokane Valley City Council adds to agenda for election night meeting

Municipalities usually cancel meetings that fall on a presidential election night, but not Spokane Valley.

The City Council just announced a special meeting beginning at 5 p.m. followed by its ordinary meeting at 6 p.m. and there are large issues on the agendas, including the first hearing of a ordinance that would implement a 6 percent utility tax to pay for the road maintenance fund. That fund was previously paid for by a tax on phone landlines. The proposed tax would replace the landline tax. The hearing is followed by a first reading to adopt the utility tax.

There will also be a public hearing on the draft comprehensive plan, followed by the first reading to adopt the comprehensive plan.

Here’s the latest update for the presidential election night meeting:

“Tentative action items include a second reading of an ordinance to Amend the 2016 Budget, a second reading of an ordinance to Adopt the 2017 Budget, a motion to consider approval of an Interlocal Agreement with Spokane Regional Transportation Management Center, and a motion to consider approval of the City Manager Contract.  Please note that the regular 6 p.m. November 8 meeting will be held as usual. As usual, these meetings will be open to the public.”

There will be time for public comments.
