Eastern women’s soccer edges Idaho for spot in Big Sky tournament title match

Sophomore Allison Raniere scored her first goal of the season with time running down Friday as Eastern Washington clinched a spot in the Big Sky Conference women’s soccer tournament title match with a 1-0 win over Idaho at EWU.

Raniere’s goal, assisted by Chloe Williams and Aimie Inthoulay, came in the 88th minute. It put the fifth-seeded Eagles (13-4-3) into the championship against third-seeded Northern Arizona (10-7-4) at noon Sunday.

Northern Arizona advanced with a 3-2 win over second-seeded Sacramento State (8-7-4).

Idaho (10-5-4) entered as the top seed. EWU also defeated Idaho during the regular season.

Shots were at a premium as Eastern goalkeeper Mallory Taylor and her Vandals counterpart, Torell Stewart, made one save apiece.
