The Dirt: Renovation planned at Heylman-designed Canterbury Court Apartments

A $3.2 million renovation is scheduled for Canterbury Court Apartments, a 125-unit senior housing complex in Spokane.

Common areas inside the 100,000-square-foot apartment building will be remodeled, and about 32 units will be renovated.

The complex, at 1010 S. Rockwood Blvd., will get upgrades to its parking lot, sidewalk and landscaping.

Spokane architect Warren Heylman designed the six-level Canterbury Court, which was built in the mid-1970s. Additional Heylman-created structures include the Spokane Regional Health Building, Latah Creek Viaduct and Cathedral Plaza Apartments.

Shannon Meagher, Kiemle & Hagood project manager, said Canterbury Court will get a new roof and more than 600 windows will be replaced during the project. T.W. Clark Construction, of Spokane Valley, is the contractor.

The work will add Americans With Disabilities Act accessibility in common spaces. The 32 units will be fully updated, and a percentage of those apartments are deemed as having disabled accessibility, Meagher said.

Kiemle & Hagood manages the subsidized senior complex located near the entrance of the Rockwood neighborhood. The renovations won’t displace any residents or affect rents, Meagher said.
