Women’s soccer: Amy Edwards out as Gonzaga coach

From staff and wire reports

Gonzaga women’s soccer coach Amy Edwards’ contract will not be renewed, athletic director Mike Roth announced Wednesday.

Shannon Strahl, GU’s Senior Associate Director of Athletics, will lead the search for a successor.

In eight seasons as head coach, Edwards was 55-86-13. This season, the Bulldogs were 6-10-2 overall and 2-7 in the West Coast Conference.

“We have great respect for Coach Edwards and want to thank her for leading our women’s soccer program for the last eight seasons,” Roth said.

Edwards’ 55-win total ranks second in program history. She has coached six All-WCC first- or-second-team selections.

“I want to thank Mike Roth and Shannon Strahl for the opportunity to lead the women’s soccer program the past eight years,” Edwards said.

Whitworth sophomore midfielder Kathryn Bischoff (Ferris High), senior midfielder Jenna Morris and sophomore forward Arielle Van Peursem were named first-team All-Northwest Conference. Pirates junior forward McKenzie Hemp made honorable mention.
