Postseason prep football glance

Sedro-Woolley Cubs (8-2) at Pullman Greyhounds (8-2)

When: Saturday, 2

At a glance: The Greyhounds have been winning with defense the last two weeks, coming up with clutch plays in timely moments. Playing at home should benefit Pullman.

Prediction: Pullman, 21-14.

West Valley Knights (9-1)

at Franklin Pierce Cardinals (9-1)

When: Saturday, 2:30

At a glance: The Cardinals acquitted themselves after opening the season with a 77-42 loss to perennial 2A power Tumwater. In fact, the following week, Franklin Pierce beat Fife 45-43. The week before, Fife scored a 30-20 road win over Pullman. The Cards have scored points in bunches. WV’s defense will be tested.

Prediction: Franklin Pierce, 27-17.

Naches Valley Rangers (7-3)

at Deer Park Stags (8-1)

When: Friday, 6

At a glance: The Stags have improved mightily since an eye-opening 46-0 shutout at home to St. Maries, which is in the State 2A semifinals in Idaho. Deer Park has run off seven straight wins, and the Stags are hungry for more.

Prediction: Deer Park, 30-14.

Freeman Scotties (7-2) at Zillah Leopards (8-1)

When: Friday, 6

At a glance: Two back-to-back losses by a combined 11 points is the difference in an unblemished record for the Scotties. Freeman’s defense is stout enough to make things difficult for the Leopards. And a big dish of running back Ben Darcy will make things difficult for Zillah.

Prediction: Freeman, 31-21.

Colville Indians (7-3) at Royal Knights (9-0)

When: Saturday, 1

At a glance: The Indians put together a big road win in a play-in game last week. But now the task becomes as difficult as it gets in 1A. Next up is top-ranked and defending state champ Royal, which has run off 23 straight victories. Royal eliminated Colville last year. The Knights play stingy defense.

Prediction: Royal, 21-7.

Lake Roosevelt Raiders (6-2)

vs. Northwest Christian Crusaders (9-1)

When: Friday, Albi Stadium, 7

At a glance: The Crusaders can make a run in the playoffs, and this is a nice start. NWC’s weapons and defense will be too much for the Raiders.

Prediction: NWC, 40-20.

Liberty Lancers (9-1) at Kittitas Coyotes (7-1)

When: Friday, 6

At a glance: The Lancers have had a superb season and there’s no reason why they can’t keep it going. Sure they open on the road but they have the core to handle Kittitas.

Prediction: Liberty, 27-18.

St. Maries Lumberjacks (10-0) vs. Bear Lake Bears (7-2)

When: Saturday, Holt Arena, 1

At a glance: This is where the No. 1-ranked Lumberjacks expected to be, playing for a chance to advance to the state final. They should take this opportunity to acclimate to Holt Arena because a win here and they return to play for the title the following week. St. Maries’ defense will be the difference.

Prediction: St. Maries, 23-13.
