West Valley football advances in State 2A playoffs

Hunter Wright scored on a 1-yard run with six minutes remaining and West Valley (10-1) defeated Franklin Pierce (9-2) 44-41 in a State 2A football first-round game in Midland, Washington, on Saturday.

Pullman’s state run was stymied as the Greyhounds fell to Sedro-Wooley 28-25 on a 37-yard field goal from Adrian Vasquez as time expired in the first round of the 2A state playoffs at Pullman High School.

Greyhounds quarterback Jake Cillay was 15 for 27 with 158 passing yards and also had 65 rushing yards on 17 carries in the losing effort.

The Cubs move to face Ellensburg in the quarterfinals.

Colville’s season ended at the hands of Royal 27-6 in the State 1A playoffs for the second-straight year, as the Indians (7-4) fell to the Knights (10-0) in the first round at Royal City High School.

St. Maries (11-0) won 20-14 over Bear Lake to advance to the Idaho state 2A championship game. The Lumberjacks face Delco at the Holt Arena on Friday for the state title.

Boys soccer

Mitch Ward netted two goals and Oscar Angell added a goal and an assist in St. George’s 3-0 rout over visiting Mount Vernon Christian to advance to the 2B/1B state semifinals.

The Dragons, last year’s state champions, will play Prescott Friday at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner, Washington.

Girls soccer

Olivia Osbourne made 13 saves in St. George’s 2-1 2B state quarterfinal win over Brewster (14-4). The Dragons (16-3) face Liberty Bell in the semifinals on Friday at Sunset Chev.

East Valley (15-3) fell to host Selah (16-3-1) 2-1 in the 2A state quarterfinals.
