Mark Schoesler re-elected majority leader in Washington state senate

OLYMPIA – Mark Schoesler, a Ritzville Republican was re-elected majority leader of the Senate in a unanimous vote Tuesday.

Schoesler has served in the top spot for two year and is expected to lead a majority coalition of 24 Republicans and one Democrat who votes with them. One Senate race from last Tuesday’s election remains close with the incumbent Democrat, Mark Mullet, leading GOP challenger Chad Magendanz by about 800 votes.

Sen. Sharon Nelson, D-Maury Island, was re-elected minority leader by the chamber’s other Democrats, who will total 24 if Mullet wins.
