WSU only rises to No. 22 in latest playoff rankings

PULLMAN – For the first time this season, there is not consensus among the various college football rankings when it comes to Washington State.

Although the Cougars rank No. 20 in both the Associated Press Top-25 and the Coaches Poll, WSU only rose to No. 22 in the College Football Playoff Rankings that were released Tuesday evening.

The Cougars entered all the rankings at No. 25 following their win over Oregon State, and rose to No. 23 after the 69-7 blowout of Arizona. But apparently the playoff selection committee was less impressed with WSU’s 56-21 win over California.

WSU will have at least two chances at big wins that could propel them up the rankings, of course. Their opponent on Saturday is No. 10 Colorado and the following Friday the Cougars will host No. 6 Washington in the Apple Cup.

The Huskies only lost two spots after losing to USC at home last weekend. The Trojans, ranked No. 20 last week, rose to No. 13 after beating UW.
