WSP: 3 injured in crash caused by driver of STA vehicle in north Spokane

Three people were taken to the hospital early Wednesday after a Spokane Transit Authority vehicle pulled out in front of a motorist on Division Street south of Wandermere.

The STA paratransit vehicle driven by 41-year-old Lorna Fourstar was traveling east on Regina Road and pulled out into traffic on Division, colliding with a southbound Ford SUV driven by James Teller, 40, just before 9 a.m., according to the Washington State Patrol. STA passenger Simon Beer, 37, was also injured in the crash, according to a news release.

Fourstar and Beer were taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where their conditions were being evaluated Wednesday afternoon, according to a spokeswoman for Providence. Teller was taken to Holy Family Hospital, where he was treated and released, the spokeswoman said. All three people injured were wearing seatbelts, according to the WSP.

Teller’s SUV was totaled in the collision. The STA vehicle was damaged. The WSP listed the cause of the crash as Fourstar’s failure to yield right of way and charges are pending, according to the news release.

STA, through a spokesman, confirmed the crash involved a paratransit vehicle and that there was one passenger on board at the time of the collision. The spokesman declined further comment, citing a pending investigation.
