Area roundup: Huskies knock off Buffaloes

Crissy Jones totaled 18 kills, 22 digs and three service aces to power the visiting Washington Huskies (23-4, 13-4) to a 25-23, 25-13, 21-25, 25-15 win over the Colorado Buffaloes (13-14, 5-12) in Pac-12 Conference play on Friday.

Kara Bajema finished with 14 kills and seven blocks for the Huskies, Courtney Schwan chipped in with 13 kills and 13 digs and Bailey Tanner added 55 assists.

Alexa Smith topped the Buffaloes with 14 kills.

Shea O’Brien and Audrey Saelens each had seven kills and Kyle Mellick added 11 digs to help the Bellevue Bulldogs (36-9) eliminate the North Idaho Cardinals (20-14) from the Northwest Athletic Conference championship tournament in Tacoma, Washington.

North Idaho took the first game 25-20, but dropped the next two 10-25 and 10-15.

Brooke Bell had a match-high eight kills for the Cardinals, while Zuri Meehan led all players with 13 digs.

North Idaho began the day by getting swept by the top-seeded Linn-Benton Roadrunners (41-1) 25-21, 25-15, 25-21.

Chase Bohman tallied 14 kills and 16 digs to pace Linn-Benton.

Julie Staffler finished with 14 kills to lead North Idaho. Bell chipped in 10 kills and Halle Hess piled up 15 digs for the Cardinals.

Wrestling

David Campbell and Blake McNall opened the match with pins and the visiting Clackamas Cougars breezed to a 28-8 victory over the North Idaho Cardinals.

Campbell pinned NIC’s Garrett White in 5 minutes, 40 seconds in the 125-pound weight class and McNall (133) pinned Thunder Morales in 2:04.

Bryson Beard (141), Trey Meyer (165) and Cooper Thomas (285) all won by decision for the Cardinals.

Hockey

Ed Lindsey and Daneel Lategan each notched a pair of goals to power the Castlegar Rebels to a 5-3 win over the visiting Spokane Braves in KIJHL play.
