UW rises, WSU falls one spot in latest playoff rankings

PULLMAN – A Pac-12 championship game berth will be on the line when Washington State hosts Washington in the Apple Cup on Friday, and it appears more and more likely that the Huskies will be playing for a playoff spot as well.

UW rose one spot to No. 5 in the college football playoff rankings after beating Arizona State on Saturday, and WSU fell one spot to No. 23 after losing to No. 9 Colorado. If the Huskies win the Apple Cup and Pac-12 championship game, they are certain to make the four-team playoff according to Danny Kanell and David Pollack, two hosts of ESPN’s show in which the rankings are revealed each week.

The winner of Friday’s contest will either play the Buffaloes or No. 12 USC. The Trojans have already beaten the Huskies, and CU beat the Cougars, but both schools skipped the other Washington school this year.
