Trump lacks character

I thought my opinion of Donald Trump could go no lower, but a recent article on Trump’s character proved me wrong. When you revenge yourself by attacking a sick and defenseless baby, you have really hit the depth of moral depravity.

The article recounts the vindictive campaign by Trump to deny health coverage to his nephew’s desperately ill baby because the baby’s father dared to challenge the will of Fred Trump Sr. Trump’s philosophy is that when people screw you, you need to screw them 15 times harder even if the target of your revenge is a sick and defenseless baby.

I joined the Army at 17 and taught American history at the university level for 40 years. I have loved my country, not for its wealth or its military powers, but because our history shows we can be a generous and compassionate people. I have always been enthralled by the story of the “melting pot” nature of our country. We have made mistakes in our past, but we always seem to make progress toward the ideals of equality of opportunity, protecting the basic rights of all people and giving a helping hand to those in need.

Don’t throw that magnificent history away by electing a man who under the guise of “making America great again” is really throwing away the ideals that make us truly great.

Donald Trump doesn’t understand American history just as he has no idea of the meaning of the word sacrifice. A man that ignorant and morally bankrupt is unfit to lead our country.
