Deputy involved in Hayden fatal collision identified

The Kootenai County deputy involved in a fatal collision on Highway 95 in Hayden early Saturday morning has been identified as Andrew Nye, 33.

Nye was driving his patrol car south on Highway 95 near Miles Avenue in the right lane when he struck and killed 38-year-old Amber E. Viuhkola of Hayden in the roadway just after 1:30 a.m., according to the Idaho State Police.

Nye was hired by the Sheriff’s Office as a rookie in 2009, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Stu Miller. He is on paid administrative leave while the ISP conducts an investigation of the collision.
