Prep roundup: Deer Park knocks off Medical Lake, moves into first place

Jessie Thomas scored a goal with 2 minutes left in regulation play to knot the score and Lily Pierce scored the decisive goal in a shootout to lift the Deer Park Stags to a 3-2 girls soccer victory over the visiting Medical Lake Cardinals on Wednesday.

Deer Park moved a half-game ahead of Medical Lake atop the Northeast A League standings.

Medical Lake looked to have the match in hand after Jaxyn Farmen scored a goal in the 76th minute to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead, but Thomas and Pierce had other ideas.

Volleyball

Carmen Gfeller amassed 22 kills and four service aces to send the Colfax Bulldogs to a 25-20, 25-21. 25-26 sweep over the visiting Liberty Lancers in a battle between the top two teams in the Northeast 2B South Division.

With the victory, Colfax moves two games clear of Liberty.

— Peyton Stark tallied 27 assists and three service aces to lead the visiting Cheney Blackhawks to a 25-18, 25-22, 25-14 sweep over the Pullman Greyhounds in a battle between the top two teams in the Great Northern League.

Cheney’s victory gives it a two-game advantage in Great Northern Leagle play.
