Whitworth rallies for win at PLU

Duke DeGaetano ran for a 10-yard touchdown, his third of the game, with 41 seconds to go and Whitworth edged Pacific Lutheran 45-41 on Saturday in Puyallup, Washington.

The Pirates (5-1, 3-0 Northwest Conference) rallyied from 17 points down with just under 12 minutes to play. The Lutes (3-2, 2-1) took a 41-24 lead with 11:45 to play in the game on Carson Ketter’s 93-yard interception return for a TD.

Whitworth then scored on three straight possessions, capped by DeGaetano’s game-winner. Ian Kolste carried in from the 5 and DeGaetano had a 2-yard plunge before his game-winner.

DeGaetano ran for 55 of his career-high 172 yards on the final drive.

Kolste completed 47 of 65 passes for 349 yards with two TDs. Garrett McKay had 12 catches for 103 yards and a score while Kevin Thomas had 10 for 54 yards and a TD.

Central Washington 35, Western Oregon 0: Justin Lane passed for 269 yards with two touchdowns as the Wildcats (5-2, 4-1) beat the Wolves in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup in Ellensburg, Washington.

Tryie Sam returned an interception 98 yards for a TD, longest in school history, and Tovar Sanchez had two sacks to become the school’s career leader with 26.

Montana Tech 34, Carroll 15: Nolan Saraceni ran for 153 yards with a touchdown and the No. 9 Orediggers beat the Saints (2-4, 2-4) in Butte, Montana, in a Frontier Conference game.
