Spokane school district-wide enrollment up, but less than anticipated

Spokane Public Schools district-wide student enrollment is up 605 students, about 60 students fewer than anticipated, according to a yearly enrollment report.

Although the district receives state funding based upon enrollment numbers, the difference between the expected and actual enrollment numbers isn’t large enough to cause any budgetary problems, district spokesman Kevin Morrison said.

The biggest increase in enrollment came in the special programs category, which saw a 473 student increase. Special programs include Eagle Peak, Bryant, online learning and other programs.

District middle schools saw a 156 student decrease, while elementary programs increased by 174 students. The high-schools saw a 114-student increase.
