Spokane County sheriff’s deputies quickly made an arrest after a robbery Thursday morning at the Umpqua Bank in Spokane Valley.

Investigators believe that Michael J. Yardley, 51, is also the man who robbed the same bank on July 19. He is facing two charges of first-degree robbery.

Just before 9:30 a.m., a man entered the bank at 11205 E. Sprague Ave. displaying a gun and demanding money, a sheriff’s office news release says. The robber left the west side of the bank, ran to a green/teal, two-door passenger car and fled, witnesses told deputies.

The man was described as a white male between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10, with a heavier build and a large, round nose, wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, brown work boots and a black mask covering his face.

The suspected getaway car was spotted by Deputy Craig Chamberlin in the 200 block of North Felts Road about an hour after Thursday’s robbery, and Yardley was quickly arrested.

The robbery of the same bank branch earlier this year took place at about 9:45 a.m. According to photos of the robber released by the sheriff’s office, the robber was a white male with a similar build who was wearing a white mask and an orange bandana over his head. The man was carrying a semi-automatic gun with an extended magazine.
