Yakima man wins $1 million in Mega Millions contest
OLYMPIA – State Lottery officials say a Yakima man recently won $1 million from playing Mega Millions.
Marvin Koop said he plans to make a “sizable donation” to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, plus travel to Alaska and invest some of the money, according to a news release issued Thursday afternoon by Lottery officials.
Koop said in the statement he had been an Eagles member for 47 years. Besides financially supporting that organization, Koop said, he wants to help groups for individuals with diabetes.
Koop purchased the ticket Oct. 11 using Quick Pick at the Fifth Avenue Safeway. He told Lottery officials he was so excited by the win that he drove directly to the agency’s Yakima office without telling anyone, the news release said.
