City of Coeur d’Alene will start leaf, pine needle pickup Nov. 7

From staff reports

The city of Coeur d’Alene is preparing for its annual leaf and pine needle pickup.

City residents may begin raking leaves and pine needles into the street on Tuesday for future pick up by city crews. People should leave a 1-foot space between the piles and the curb to prevent blocking storm drains.

City crews will first picking up large pine needle piles during the week of Nov. 7, concentrating efforts in the Fairways, Indian Meadows and Pinegrove areas.

Most of the leaf and pine needle pickup will occur between Nov. 14 and Dec. 2.

The city picks up about 700 loads of leaves per year, equating to 2,000 tons of leaves. The leaves will be hauled to the Coeur d’Alene Airport this year and tilled into the ground to yield nutrient-rich soil for future use along the prairie trail.

Coeur d’Alene is also inviting community members interested in using leaves or pine needles for mulch or landscaping to call (208) 769-2233.
