I-1433 to hurt seniors
I am a senior citizen and I am voting no on Initiative 1433. If passed, it is going to raise the cost of living significantly.
My Social Security has been stagnant for years. Currently, my after-Medicare/pre-tax amount comes to about $7.85 per hour. My wife’s is an appalling $2.94. How does that compare with the proposed $13.50 per hour by 2020? And after 2021, adjustments will be made for inflation. Absolutely asinine.
Why should we (and other Social Security recipients) have to dig further into our savings so that entry level, unskilled workers can be inordinately compensated? Why should the state have to come up with an additional $285 million to service the increase?
Do the proponents think that prices will remain static? Your latte and Big Mac costs will jump significantly, and there will be fewer employees to serve them. Don’t let them further lower our standard of living.
