The U.N. Human Rights Commission chief announced on Oct. 12 that a Trump presidency would be dangerous to the international community. The fact that he can see this threat so clearly while Trump supporters fail to see it shows that many Americans have lost touch with what it means to be an American. That question used to be answered with high-minded morality and ethics by anyone in America, but such values no longer serve as the rudder of our ship of state.
Fear can make us stupid. Trump and his supporters are clueless about the position of responsibility and leadership America has in the global community. It would be a tragedy of global proportions if this ego-centered, arrogant individual were picked to represent us to the world.
There is no easy solution to the threat of global Islamic terrorism, but it must be met with a thoughtful strategy that takes into consideration multiple causative factors, not with a single, heavy-handed approach that is likely to create even more terrorists angry at the United States.
The fact that people like Trump and his admirers are unable to grasp this is in itself a huge threat to our national security.
