CV’s Nelson, Ferris’ Ado, West Valley’s Nicholson win regional cross country races; CV boys and girls win team titles

Central Valley’s girls and boys won 4A regional cross country titles while CV’s Kearnan Nelson was the girls individual champ and Ferris’ Amir Ado the boys winner Saturday in Richland.

Nelson’s first place finish was enough to give the Central Valley girls a one-point victory over Greater Spokane League regular-season champion Lewis and Clark as GSLteams won the two available girls and boys team state berths. It is the fourth straight regional championship for CV.

Nelson finished the 5,000-meter course at Carmichael Middle School in 17 minutes, 3.93 seconds, edging LC’s Katie Thoronson (17:05.69) as the Bears won 57-58.

Ado of Ferris won the boys race in 14:54.30 with Central Valley taking the team title with 57 points and Ferris second at 71.

Joining Nelson on the CV team at the state championships on the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco on Saturday will be Gabrielle Ford (11th), Olivia Sine (13), Anna Fomin (15), Erica Pecha (17), Anna Pecha (19) and Ali Tolman (25).

Joining Thoronson on the Lewis and Clark team to state are Abby Smith (3rd), Kenzie Gaines (10), Madeline Pincock (20), Emily Armstrong (23), Olivia Rabin (27) and Emily Phillip (38).

GSL girls advancing as individuals are Hannah Barone (Mead, 4th), Claire Dingus (University, 5), Jenna Rogers (Mead, 6), Rebecca Lehman (University, 8) and Leah Carney (Gonzaga Prep, 9).

Ryan Kline led Central Valley’s title-winning effort, finishing second in 15:07.03. He will be joined at state by teammates Gabe Romney (5th) Evan Peters (10), Sheamus Mahoney (19), Joey Nicholls (21), Ryan Hunter (22) and Fielding Demars (23).

Ado will lead the Ferris contingent that includes Todd Bloom (11), Wilson Ladd (16), Jacob Stirpe (18), Chad Caviness (25), Jackson Burkhart (27) and William Miller (48).

GSL boys advancing as individuals are Tulan Morlan (Gonzaga Prep, 3rd), Spencer Swaim (Lewis and Clark, 8), Zak Kindl (LC, 9), Joe Hawkins (University, 13) and Alek Kvokov (Mead, 14).

2A regional

Jacob Nicholson of West Valley won the boys race at Apple Ridge Run in Naches Heights, Washington, in 15:30.1.

The Cheney and Pullman boys teams finished second and third to advance to the state meet in Pasco while the Pullman girls took second and West Valley fourth to advance.

Selah scored 65 points to win the boys title, edging Cheney by a point. Pullman had 69.

Nicholson advances as an individual as does teammate Cody Skay (4th), Hunter Reynolds (East Valley, 16), Mason Best (Clarkston, 26) and Will Sharp (EV, 27).

Matthew Christianson led Cheney with a seventh-place finish and heads to state with teammates Bas Holland (9th), Drake Johnson (11), Jack Peabody (25), Kaleb Lerch (28), Tucker Cunningham (31) and Andres Margraf (46).

Tim Pendry led Pullman, finishing eighth, and is joined at state by teammates Eliason Kabasenche (10th), Sebastien Lewis (13), Roman Romanyuk (20), Aron James (32), Jerome Campbell (41) and Oscar Edge (47).

Selah won the girls title with 59 points, a point better than Pullman. West Valley had 110.

Elyria Kabasenche, Jenna Herzog and Madeline Walker finished 3-4-5 to lead Pullman and are joined at state by teammates Charity Cordova (21st), Ryan Hyatt (27), Gillian Oaks (41) and Guisima Young (43).

Emma Garza was West Valley’s top finisher at tenth and advances with teammates Mikayla Davis (18th), Annika Esvelt (24), Sydney Stone (26), Sarah Adamson (32) and Hannah Stockman (67).

Great Northern League girls advancing as individuals are Cheney teammates Hannah Spakousky (8th), Brette Draper (20th) and Megan Habegger (23).
