New Spokane ombudsman to be chosen Tuesday

Twenty-one months after Spokane’s last police ombudsman retired, the city may finally have a permanent replacement.

The city’s police ombudsman commission will consider two candidates for the job at a meeting Tuesday night. One, Bart Logue, has been working as interim ombudsman since February after switching careers from the U.S. Marine Corps.

The other finalist, Jacquelyn MacConnell, is a former Phoenix police officer who now works as a commander for the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office.

Though Logue has been doing the ombudsman’s job, commissioners said at a meeting in mid-August that either candidate has a chance of being selected.

The commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. in city council chambers at City Hall. Selection of an ombudsman is near the end of their agenda for the night.
