Ian Kolste leads Whitworth to La Verne

Pirates at Leopards

Kickoff: 11 a.m. in Ortmayer Stadium in La Verne, Calif.

Records: Whitworth (1-1), La Verne (0-1)

Radio: 1230-AM

Overview: The Pirates are riding high after plundering Whittier last week 60-0. Whitworth racked up 605 yards of offense, including 442 in the first half as Whitworth built a 43-0 lead at halftime. The Pirates face a La Verne team that made the NCAA Div. III playoffs last season, but the Leopards stumbled out of the gate and fell 31-19 on Sept. 3 at Puget Sound. The Pirates tamed the Leopards 39-20 last season at the Pine Bowl. To have a chance, the Leopards will have to find a way to slow Whitworth quarterback Ian Kolste. In only two games, Kolste has completed 58-of-85 passes (68 percent) for 803 yards and five touchdowns. He ranks fourth in the NCAA Div. III in passing yards, fifth in passing yards per game (401.5) and fifth in total offense per game (409).
