Athol man injured in crash with semi on Highway 53

An Athol man was injured when his truck crossed the center line and crashed head on into a semi on Highway 53 near Rathdrum late Tuesday, according to the Idaho State Police.

John Vanscyoc was driving eastbound in his Dodge Ram 1500 pickup when he hit the westbound semi around 9:45 p.m. Vanscyoc’s truck then spun and hit a westbound Chevy Avalanche driven by Derek Fredericks of Sagle, Idaho, the ISP said.

The semi stopped in the south ditch of the highway, which was blocked for about an hour. Vanscyoc was taken to Kootenai Health. The other drivers were uninjured.
