Pasco OKs ride-hailing companies but requires fingerprinting

PASCO – The Pasco City Council has voted to greenlight ride-hailing companies such as Uber and Lyft. But the city is requiring that all drivers be fingerprinted.

The Tri-City reported that requirement will likely mean the city won’t be signing an agreement with San Francisco-based Uber. The company has indicated that a fingerprint requirement is a deal breaker.

Council members said they hoped others will jump at the chance to fill the city’s Uber void.

Until Monday night’s 4 to 3 council vote to approve transportation network companies within city limits, only taxicab companies were allowed to operate in Pasco. Those drivers had to be fingerprinted as well.

City Manager Dave Zabell says the changes and regulations should be implemented within the next week or so.
