Goats killed by black bear near Billings campground

Associated Press

BILLINGS – Montana wildlife managers are trying to capture a black bear that killed two goats in a south Billings neighborhood this week.

Capt. Bill Michaelis of the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office says people south of the city have reported seeing a small black bear roaming in the area and going through garbage since about Monday.

Michaelis tells The Billings Gazette that the bear is about 2 years old.

He says it appeared the bear had either climbed or partially pushed over a fence to get to the goats.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks game warden Brad Balis says a trap has been set in the area to capture the bear.

Balis says the bear will be euthanized if it’s capture because it could hurt someone or kill more domesticated animals.
