Loon Lake home destroyed in fire Sunday night

A fire destroyed one home and severely damaged another in the Morgan Park neighborhood of Loon Lake on Sunday night.

The Stevens County fire department responded to a call around 8 p.m. Within an hour, more than 15 fire and rescue vehicles were on site attempting to control the blaze that consumed a pole barn and manufactured home just north of the intersection of Gwenelen Road and North Shore Drive. The Morgan Park development is at the north end of Loon Lake.

Firefighters were unable to contain the house fire, which spread to the home just south, toward the lake. The back of that home caught fire along with a tall ponderosa pine. The firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading further.

At least one firefighter was treated on site for smoke inhalation.
