College freshmen to get a workshop on finances

OLYMPIA – Incoming college freshman would attend a financial education workshop under a bill that received final approval Tuesday by the Legislature.

On a unanimous vote, the Senate passed a bill requiring Washington colleges and universities to start providing next fall financial education to each incoming student, either during student orientation or early in the academic year. The schools would also be required to provide an overview of personal finance to students in the State Need Grant program.

The bill now goes to Gov. Jay Inslee, who must decided in the next few weeks whether to sign it.
