Man admits robbing Hayden bank with a hatchet

A Hayden man faces 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to robbing a bank with a hatchet in November.

Charles Ray Bartkowiak, 34, has admitted that he entered a Bankcda branch in Hayden on Nov. 28 and placed a hatchet on the counter as he asked a teller for cash. He escaped with $6,366 but was identified from video surveillance, according to the District of Idaho office of the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Police found some of the cash and a hatchet in his car when he was arrested.

Bartkowiak could be sent to prison for up to 20 years when he is sentenced on July 26.
