Former Idaho punter Austin Rehkow signs as free agent with Buffalo Bills

Idaho punter Austin Rehkow (Ilya Pinchuk)

Former Idaho punter Austin Rehkow announced via Twitter that he has signed as a free agent with the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

Rehkow, who attended Central Valley High, reached a deal with the Bills after the NFL Draft concluded.

Rehkow was one of 330 players invited to the NFL Combine and the first Idaho player in six years to take part in the East-West Shrine Game, a showcase for top prospects. ESPN’s Mel Kiper and CBSSports.com ranked him as the top punter in this year’s draft.

The star kicker holds the Vandals’ record for field goals and punting average – while also kicking off the last four years.

Rehkow made 26 of 29 field goal attempts for Idaho last season with a long of 50 yards against UL Lafayette on Nov. 5, and averaged 41.6 yards on 56 punts for the Vandals.

Rehkow was a Lou Groza and Ray Guy award semifinalist this season and set Sun Belt Conference single-season records for most points by a kicker (120) and made field goals. He was a first-team all-conference at punter and second-team as kicker. He became the 22nd player in Idaho school history to play in the East-West Shrine college football all-star game.
