Gonzaga ties in ninth, wins in 10th, 12-11, over Saint Mary’s

Jace VanDeBrake’s one-out single in the 10th inning brought home Justin Jacobs with the winning run in No. 19 Gonzaga’s 12-11 victory over Saint Mary’s on Sunday in Spokane.

Jacobs led off with a walk and went to second on Jeff Bohling’s sacrifice.

The Bulldogs (26-16, 15-6 WCC), who had given up a five-run lead, tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with one out on Sam Brown’s single that drove home Branson Trube from third. Trube was running for Jake Vieth, who led off with a single.

Jacobs hit a grand slam and Jake Roberts and Troy Johnson each added three-run homers. Daniel Bies (4-2) threw five scoreless innings.

The Gaels fell to 26-15, 11-7.

Washington 4, Cal 1: Levi Jordan drove in two runs and scored another in leading Washington (24-17, 10-8 Pac-12) to a win over Cal (20-12, 12-9) in Seattle. Joe Demers pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up just one unearned run, with Leo Nierenberg getting the save.

Puget Sound 4, Whitworth 3: Jack Gries’ RBI double gave the Loggers (14-24) the winning run in the ninth and the Pirates (24-17) dropped their season finale in a nonconference game at Tacoma.

Golf

Bigfoot Invitational: North Idaho’s Ross Gilbert won the men’s individual championship but the Cardinals lost the team title in a four-on-four playoff with Bellevue.

At MeadowWood, Gilbert shot a 68 and finished at 8-under 134 to win by six strokes while NIC and Bellevue finished regulation at 12 over.

CC Spokane took fifth at 26 over and was led by Ryan Brown, who tied for seventh at 4 over.

The NIC women won, finishing at 53 over, eight strokes better than Columbia Basin and 14 ahead of third-place CCS.

Brianna Esvelt of Columbia Basin was the women’s winner at 12-over 156. Madi Brown led NIC with a third-place finish at 17-over with Megan Cysewski two strokes further back in fourth in pacing CCS.

Men’s Pac-12 championships: Oregon’s Wyndham Clark won the individual title at 4-under 206 for a three-stroke victory and led the Ducks to the team championship by the same margin over Stanford at Boulder (Colorado) CC.

The Ducks finished at 15 under in the 54-hole tournament. Washington tied for third with USC at 32 over and Washington State was 10th at 63 over. Carl Yuan led Washington at 3 over to tie for fourth while Daniel Kolar and Brian Mogg both finished at 9 over and tied for 10 in pacing the Cougars.

Men’s Big Sky championships: Sacramento State’s Aaron Beverly’s 1-under 215 topped the field as he led the Hornets to the team title at 10 over and a 15-stroke victory at Boulder Creek (Nevada) GC.

Idaho was seventh at 59 over with Enrique Marin leading the Vandals at 5 over to tie for eighth.

Softball

Washington 3, Cal 2: Taylor Van Zee had two hits in driving in two runs and Taran Alvelo tossed a complete game in the No. 8 Huskies’ win over the Golden Bears in Berkeley, California. UW is 37-10, 11-7 Pac-12 and Cal 27-19, 3-14.
