Associated Press

PORTLAND – Authorities have recovered the body of a teenager in the Columbia River near Sauvie Island after he went under water and didn’t resurface.

KGW-TV reported the 18-year-old man went into the water at Walton Beach at about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

A witness told the media outlet that several people jumped form a boat into the river to swim to shore and that one person struggled and slipped under water.

Oregon State Police said divers were called to the river to search and that his body was recovered at about 9:15 p.m.

Sauvie Island is northwest of Portland.
