The Spokane Public Schools board of directors is looking to fill a vacant board seat.

The board will be accepting applications through Aug. 31, for the board seat left vacant by Paul Schneider.

Schneider resigned from the position after allegedly hitting a bicyclist while driving drunk. He was elected to the board in November 2015.

The board will review applications between Sept. 1 and 6. Finalists should be announced on Sept. 7 and interviews will be held on Sept. 11 and 12.

The new board member will be sworn in on Sept. 27.

Whoever is selected to fill the vacant seat won’t have to run for office until November 2019, the next regularly scheduled board election. In November 2019, three seats on the board will be up for election.

Board member Mike Wiser was appointed to the board of directors in March after the resignation of Bob Douthitt. Wiser is campaigning to hold his seat in the November election. He advanced through the primary in Tuesday’s election.

Applicants need to submit a letter describing their background, motivation for serving on the board and a resume. All materials should be sent to school board President Deana Brower, care of the Superintendent’s Office at 200 N. Bernard St., Spokane, WA 99201.
