Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 17U fall to Wyoming at Class A regionals

Walker Williams struck out six over five innings and the Cody (Wyoming) Cubs beat the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 4-3 in the Northwest Class “A” Regional Tournament in Eugene on Friday.

In the modified double-elimination tournament, the Idaho state champion Lums will face Nampa, Idaho, at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in a loser-out game. Idaho qualified two teams to the regional, along with the state champs from Utah, Montana, Alaska and Oregon.

Coeur d’Alene scored all its runs in the third inning, but Cody got one run back in the bottom half before rallying for three in the fifth.

Carter Friesz (CdA) pitched seven innings for the Lums, allowing four runs – one earned – on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Friesz also went 2 for 4 with a two-run home run and added a double.

Elijah Samaha (Lake City) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Quinton Bunch, Devon Johnson and Michael Dooley (all CdA) had two hits apiece for the Lums.
