Evacuations for brush fire near Colville canceled
A fast moving brush fire near Colville briefly prompted a Level 3 evacuation notice for residents on Gold Creek Loop Road on Friday, but the notice was canceled.
The fire, which has been named the Gold Creek Loop fire, is estimated at 20 acres. Several fire departments responded and four aircraft dumped water on it.
Department of Natural Resources spokesman Steve Harris credits a quick response by aircraft for slowing the fire’s spread.
“There’s lots of aircraft, luckily,” he said.
By late afternoon the fire had been contained. “It’s going really well,” Harris said.
Gold Creek Loop Road remains closed to all but local residents.
