A 43-year-old man was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly exposing himself to a female passerby.

James S. Huber, who has a prior conviction for indecent exposure, is also charged with third-degree assault after allegedly resisting arrest and spitting in the face of a Spokane Valley Police deputy, according to a news release.

Two deputies responded to a call at about 9:50 a.m. near East Mansfield Avenue and Mirabeau Parkway, where a woman walking her dog said she noticed a man clothed only in a pair of shorts standing by a tree staring at her and masturbating, the release said.

Deputies searched the area and found Huber, whom the victim later positively identified as the man who exposed himself to her, lying partially covered on a sleeping bag with his shorts unzipped.

Huber was immediately confrontational and denied exposing himself. He was arrested after additional deputies arrived to assist, the release said.

During the arrest, Huber initially complied with the deputies but then allegedly began resisting until police were able to calm him down, according to the release. However, as deputies escorted him to a patrol car, Huber spit at one of the deputies, the release stated.

Huber has been booked into Spokane County Jail.
