FBI issues reward for Double Hat Bandit for bank heists in five states and Spokane

The FBI is offering $10,000 for information leading to the conviction of the so-called “Double Hat Bandit,” believed to have committed 13 bank robberies in grocery stores located in five states, including three in Spokane.

On two occasions, including once in Spokane, the man – who wears two hats during his heists – hit two banks in one day, according to an FBI news release.

“The man usually shows the teller a note, and during four of the robberies, he displayed a small handgun in his waistband,” the news release states. “He should be considered armed and dangerous.”

The Double Hat Bandit has hit banks in Utah, Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Idaho. He is suspected of robbing the two Spokane locations of the Alaska USA Federal Credit Union on Jan. 3; and the same Alaska USA Federal Credit union at 2507 W. Wellesley Ave. on June 27.

Anyone who has information about the Double Hat Bandit is asked to call the FBI tip line at (801) 579-6480.
