Boys basketball roundup: Sam Matheson’s 20 points secure CdA win over Central Valley

Coeur d’Alene 64, Central Valley 57: Sam Matheson scored a game-high 20 points on 12-of-13 shooting from the free-throw line and the Vikings (1-0) defeated the visiting Bears (0-1) on Saturday in a nonleague tilt. Kale Edwards added 10 points for the Vikings.

Rogers 59, Cheney 50: Jah’lil Frans had seven points, seven rebounds with five steals and the Pirates (1-1) defeated the visiting Blackhawks (1-1). Jake Berman had a game-high 18 points for the Blackhawks.

West Valley 59, Lake City 52: Connor Whitney and Cletis Hydrick led West Valley with 15 points each and the visiting Eagles beat the Timberwolves. West Valley was down by four at the half but came on strong in the second half to outscore Lake City by 11 in the second half. Nic McCartin led Lake City with 21 points.

Pullman 71, Pasco 47: Jake Wells scored 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists and the Greyhounds thumped the visiting Bulldogs. Diego Gutierrez scored a game-high 28 points for Pasco.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 59, Asotin 53: Bryce Kelly scored a game-high 22 points and the Broncos (1-0) beat the Panthers (0-1) in a Northeast 2B league game.

Valley Christian 79, Curlew 37: Austin Jiles scored 21 points and the Panthers beat the visiting Cougars. Sam Reese had 18 points for Valley Christian, while teammate David Karapeter scored 14 points. Justin Hanks led Curlew with 21 points. Valley Christian grabbed 55 rebounds, while also forcing Curlew to commit 33 turnovers.

Hanford 62, North Central 46: Garrett Horner scored 23 points and the Falcons defeated the visiting Indians.

Chewelah 64, Selkirk 34: Dawson Youngblood scored 19 points and the visiting Cougars (1-0) defeated the Rangers (1-1) in Ione. Ryan Zimmerman had 14 points for the Rangers.

Bonners Ferry 70, Riverside 55: Chris Sabin had 15 points and the Badgers (2-0) beat the visiting Rams (0-1). Kory Cross had 18 points for the Rams.

Freeman 69, East Valley 44: Dylan Oja scored 17 points and the host Scotties (2-0) defeated the Knights (0-3). Quin Hopkins added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Scotties.

Lakeside (WA) 58, Colfax 53: Micah Holmes scored 16 points and the visiting Eagles (2-0) defeated the Bulldogs (0-2).

Genesee 56, Colton 39: Daniel Lindquist had 17 points and the Bulldogs (1-1) defeated the visiting Wildcats (0-2).

Oakesdale 61, Troy 44: Evan Henning scored 20 points and the Nighthawks (2-0) defeated the visiting Trojans.

Pomeroy 61, Liberty Christian 46: Jacob Tewalt led with 30 points and the host Pirates (2-0) defeated the Patriots (1-0).
