Sat., Dec. 9, 2017
Just after 5:00 p.m. Friday evening, Spokane police officers responded to reports of a man smashing glass windows in his apartment, located at 217 E. 2nd. Ave.
Upon arrival, officers were told by multiple residents that the man had been seen carrying a large knife, according to a Spokane Police Department news release.
Based on the reports, the officers evacuated the nearby area and recieved additional, less-lethal weapons. They attempted to make verbal contact with the man by phone and by shouting down the hallway, but were unsuccessful, according to the release.
A man appeared in the hall without warning, brandishing a knife and screaming for the officers to shoot him. The officers deployed less-lethal rounds and the man fell to the ground, dropping the knife. He was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment and mental evaluation.
