Lexie Hull had 16 points with 12 rebounds, Lacie Hull added 12 points and 11 boards and visiting Central Valley overcame a rough shooting start to overwhelm University 55-28 in a Greater Spokane League game on Tuesday.

CV led 27-18 at the half and used a 12-point spurt at the start of the third quarter to take over.

“That’s what happens when you play one game in a month,” CV coach Freddie Rehkow said of the slow-shooting first half. “I didn’t think our shooting legs were there early and we were just kind of rushing.”

“CV could easily be the No. 1 overall team in the state,” U-Hi coach Jay Kennedy said. “Our goal is to just get better every practice, every game.

CV sprinted out to an 8-3 lead but a 3-pointer by U-Hi’s Jasey Ramelow made it a three-point game and CV led 15-10 after one.

In the second, U-Hi drew to within two on Megan Taylor’s three-point play, but CV turned up the defense. Lexie Hull drained a 3 from the top of the key and Hailey Christopher followed with a fastbreak layup to make it 20-13.

CV went on a seven-point run – including a triple by Tomekia Whitman – and led 27-18 at intermission, despite hitting 11 of 33 from the field.

The Hull twins had nine points apiece for CV, while Ramelow led U-Hi with eight.

The Bears scored the first six points of the second half, including Whitman’s reverse layup to make it 34-18 with 3:50 left in the third. The run ended at 12 straight points for CV and Payton Howard’s layup at the end of the frame made it 43-22 after three.

The fourth quarter was a little more balanced, with U-Hi picking up scoring at the line, but the Titans couldn’t muster a late run to cut into the deficit.

Whitman ended up with nine points, three rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.

“She’s just an energetic young lady that gets after it,” Rehkow said. “She was a spark.”

Ramelow was held to a pair of free throws in the second half and led U-Hi with 10 points.
