Plans for Montana wind farm cancelled

Associated Press

GREAT FALLS – An energy company has canceled plans for a wind farm in central Montana, saying a price set by regulators makes the project unfeasible.

The Great Falls Tribune reported that TransAlta scrapped the 21-megawatt farm near Martinsdale after the Public Service Commission approved a price of $23.30 per megawatt hour.

The Calgary-based company wanted more than $43 per megawatt hour for the power. Northwestern Energy, which would have purchased the power produced by TransAlta’s facility, wanted a price of $13.96.

The PSC acted as a mediator between the two companies.
