NIC rolls over Highlight at NWAC men’s basketball crossover in Coeur d’Alene

RayQuan Evans scored 26 points with seven rebounds and four assists and Tyler Brimhall added 23 points and seven rebounds in the North Idaho Cardinals’ 94-76 victory victory over the Highline Thunderbirds (4-7) at the Holiday Inn Express NWAC Crossover in Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

Evans was 10 of 15 from the floor with three 3-pointers and Brimhall was 8 of 14 while making 5 of 9 3-point tries. Aushanti Potts-Woods added 14 points and Jarod Greene 12.

NIC led by four at halftime before outscoring the Thunderbirds 55-41 in the second half, finishing with at 53 percent shooting overall and making half of their 22 shots from the arc.

College football

Eastern Washington defensive back and special teams player Anfernee Gurley was chosen to the Hero Sports All-America freshman team. He had 37 tackles, three broken-up passes and two forced fumbles.

Given honorable mention was running back Antoine Custer Jr., who finished the season with 776 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.
