Gonzaga women crank up offense during West Coast Conference opener

STOCKTON, Calif. – Gonzaga began the West Coast Conference women’s basketball season with a bang on Thursday as five players scored in double figures during a 99-72 win over host Pacific.
Jill Barta scored 15 points and Jenn Wirth added 14 as the Bulldogs (8-4) shot 54 percent from the field (37 of 69) and 20 of 26 from the free-throw line to set a season high for points.
The Zags reached halftime with a 60-35 lead and cruised from there.
Emma Stach scored 12 points, Zykera Rice 11 and Jill Townsend 10 for the Bulldogs. Jessie Loera and Chandler Smith added nine points apiece, and Smith had 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
Wirth finished 6 for 6 from the field and Barta added 10 rebounds.
Chelsea Lidy led the Tigers (6-6) with 21 points.
Gonzaga will travel to Santa Clara for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday.
