ELLENSBURG – Authorities found a 3-year-old boy in the back seat of a stolen car after a pursuit early Wednesday morning.

Just after midnight, a Kittitas County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a 2013 Honda Fit headed east on Interstate 90 for swerving. But the vehicle sped away at speeds that reached 100 mph, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Other deputies joined in the pursuit and used spike strips to slow the vehicle before another deputy used his patrol car to force the fleeing vehicle to stop near the junction of I-90 and Interstate 82, the release said.

Authorities found the boy unharmed and secure in a car, the release said. The driver, 38-year-old Lalanie E. McGahan of Renton and passenger Isaac J. McGahan, 19, also of Renton, were detained and the child – allegedly the driver’s son – was taken into protective custody, the release said.

The car was reported stolen in Seattle, the release said.

Lalanie McGahan faces possible charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, felony eluding, reckless endangerment and driving with a suspended license. Isaac McGahan faces possible charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, the release said.
