Area roundup: Cesar Sandoval scores 29 points and CC Spokane beats Walla Walla

Cesar Sandoval scored 29 points with nine rebounds and visiting CC Spokane (18-4, 7-2) beat Walla Walla (16-5, 7-2) 97-87 on Wednesday to pull into a first-place tie with the Warriors in the Northwest Athletic Conference East Region.

Sandoval went 9 of 20 from the field and 10 of 13 from the line. Orin Porter scored 20 points with nine rebounds, Cameron Gay had 13 points with six boards, Ryan Alexander added 12 and seven and Garrett Hull contributed 10 points with seven boards and four assists.

The Sasquatch shot 9 of 22 (41 percent) beyond the arc and outrebounded the Warriors 66-44.

Gabe Porter led five in double figures with 30 points, including eight 3-pointers, for Walla Walla.

Women’s basketball

Walla Walla 63, CC Spokane 52: Cierra Jo McKeown led four in double figures with 18 points and the Warriors (14-4, 7-2 NWAC) downed the visiting Sasquatch (17-3, 8-1).

Bri King led CCS with 20 points and added five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Cali Moscrip had 11 points.

The Sasquatch shot just 28 percent overall, though they hit 8 of 21 (38 percent) beyond the arc. Katlyn Ward went 0 of 13 from the field. Jade Skidmore scored 12 points with 10 rebounds, Kate Ferenz had 11 and Emily Hancock contributed 10 points with nine rebounds for Walla Walla, which held a 35-26 rebound advantage.

The Warriors opened up a close game with a 19-6 second-quarter run and led 34-20 at the break.
