Why was press surprised?

Freedom of the press is a hallmark of our country. Why were the media taken by surprise this last election? They’re free to report the facts. They’re free to report the truth. They’re free to investigate and substantiate stories before publishing. They’re free to conduct honest, balanced polls that reflect the true feelings of the electorate regardless of their personal opinions. Alas, they’re also free to operate with an agenda, some overtly others covertly.

It’s sobering that in America, with a free press (media), they’re all stunned that the outcome of the last election was not what they were so sure it was going to be.
