Area boys: Jacob Wells fills it up and Pullman edges West Valley
Jacob Wells went 5 of 7 from beyond the arc and scored 24 points with 10 rebounds and four assists and Pullman (14-5, 7-4), ranked fifth in state 2A entering play, edged visiting West Valley (9-11, 4-8) 64-60 on Thursday and clinched second place in league.
Jared Anderson added 14 points with 12 rebounds for Pullman, which led 38-26 at intermission and withstood a second-half rally by West Valley. Pullman held a 40-28 rebound advantage.
West Valley was led by Cletis Hydrick with 24 points and Collin Sather with 18 points and six assists.
Northeast A
Freeman 62, Chewelah 32: Dylan Oja scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and the Scotties (19-1, 14-0) routed the visiting Cougars (8-11, 4-10).
Ryan Maine added 14 points with five assists for Freeman, league champions and ranked first in state 1A. Freeman led 41-11 at halftime.
Lakeside 58, Newport 47: Tristan Cox scored 16 points and the visiting Eagles (11-9, 9-5) handled the Grizzlies (13-7, 10-4).
Blayne Baerwald hit three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and Jacob Gifford added 13 for Lakeside, which finished third in league, one game behind second-place Newport.
Koa Pancho led the Grizzlies with 16 points and Robby Owen added 13.
Medical Lake 72, Colville 69: Trenten Garza scored 24 points to lead the Cardinals (13-7, 9-5) over the visiting Indians (5-15, 3-11).
Colville took an eight-point lead with about four minutes left in the game. Medical Lake then put in their full-court press, forcing five steals to gain the lead back.
Colville had chance to tie the game, but the Cardinals’ Nick Mason pulled down a key rebound to seal the victory. Mason came off the bench for six points with seven rebounds.
Nizhole Sherman scored 19 points with 15 rebounds and Joey Jasmer had 10 points with 10 boards for Medical Lake.
Alberto Cisneros scored 35 points for Colville.
Deer Park 55, Riverside 31: Isaac Berglund scored 14 points and the visiting Stags (9-11, 7-7) got past the Rams (2-19, 0-14).
Chase Wisinger added 12 points for Deer Park, which raced out to a 18-5 lead after the first quarter.
Riverside was led by Conner Campbell with 10 points.
Northeast 2B
Davenport 61, Kettle Falls 28: Jaden Flett led four in double figures with 17 points and the Gorillas (8-11, 7-8) defeated the visiting Bulldogs (5-14, 2-13).
Jay Burt and A.J. Floyd scored 11 points apiece while Peyton Buchanan added 10 points with 13 rebounds for Davenport, which led 19-4 after the first quarter and were never challenged.
Marcello Melendez led the Bulldogs with eight points.
North Star
Wallace 70, Kootenai 24: Hunter Gust scored 17 points and the Miners (9-7, 5-2) crushed the visiting Warriors (3-7, 2-4).
Zack Welch added 14 points and Matt Farkas had 13 for Wallace, which used a 24-4 third quarter run to pull away.
Nonleague
Post Falls 67, Sandpoint 43: Tanner McCliment-Call scored 20 points and the visiting Trojans (13-2), ranked third in Idaho state 5A media poll this week, handled the Bulldogs (3-14).
Cameron McKeown added 16 points for the Trojans, which built a 46-18 lead at the break and cruised.
Robbie Johnson led Sandpoint with 19 points and eight rebounds.
